Carla Cammarata – Owner/Director, tutor
Specialties: ACT and SAT prep, SAT II, PSAT, chemistry, math (elementary through AP calculus), Spanish (all levels), piano, computer science and circuitry

Even as an undergraduate student at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland Carla recognized her unique combined interests in science and the importance of connecting with the people around her. She decided to double major and received her B.A. in Chemistry and Sociology with a minor in Spanish. To develop her language skills and increase her knowledge of multiculturalism, Carla spent 4 months living in South America where she developed conversational fluency in Spanish.

After graduating, Carla pursued her career as a full-time chemist and part-time tutor while continuing her education with graduate- level coursework in chemistry. Carla realized her passion for education during her first year working in the flavour and fragrance industry when she became the go-to person to train new lab assistants. Because of her ability connect with others, Carla was invited to join the Baltimore City Teaching Residency Program in 2007 but declined the offer. Craving a less conventional environment that allowed for greater creativity, Carla moved to Summit County where she launched Sage Tutoring in 2009.

Carla was inspired to create a customized learning experience that helps students achieve their personal best. Carla loves to collaborate with students and co-workers. Her background as a chemist, passion for learning, and continual quest to identify innovative ways to bring technology into the classroom make her an innate academic and educator.

At Sage, Carla shares her expertise in standardized testing strategies (ACT prep and SAT prep) and tutors a myriad of subjects ranging from students calculus to piano. Carla’s maintains a pulse on current educational trends while incorporating technology into education.

In her free time, Carla enjoys giving back to the community that she is proud to call home. She serves on the executive board of directors for the Education Foundation of the Summit and volunteers as a mentor and tutor with the Pre-Collegiate of the Summit. Carla started Sage Tutoring’s scholarship program the year that Sage opened and has awarded over $15,000 in need-based scholarships since 2009.
